Amazon intends to start accepting cryptocurrency payments. The information was provided to the media by an anonymous company informant.
Amazon is opening up to cryptocurrencies
An anonymous source on Amazon reported to a London business newspaper, City A.M. surprising information. Apparently, the e-commerce giant plans to introduce the possibility of paying in bitcoin (BTC). The final decision is to be made by the end of 2021. It is probably preparing the ground for wider acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
– It is not just going through the steps to set up your cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future – it is a full, well-covered, integral part of Amazon’s future mechanism of action City AM source said.
The newspaper’s informant added that although bitcoin is the first step in Amazon’s cryptocurrency ambitions, the company’s management is reportedly eager to add other top cryptocurrencies to the system afterwards.
– The directive comes from the very top – added the source. This would mean that Jeff Bezos himself is interested in BTC. – The entire project is almost ready to go live The informant said.
It is said that in addition to accepting bitcoin payments, Amazon is also researching the topic of creating its own cryptocurrency, which would probably be as early as 2022.
The fact that Amazon will finally enter the cryptocurrency market has been talked about for a long time. Rumors intensified when Facebook started working on the libra (today a die). The experiences of the giant from the social media market could, however, scare Amazon. The idea for a company to create its digital currency caused great controversy among officials and politicians around the globe.
Work is looking for a man
Last week, on the other hand, a new entry on “digital currency and blockchain” appeared on Amazon’s bulletin board. According to the job description, the new employee would help develop a strategy for Amazon’s digital currency and a product map to the customer. The company requires the candidate to have extensive knowledge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain as well as central bank digital currencies.
This is not the first such cryptocurrency-focused job advertisement from Amazon. In February, the giant was looking for a technical manager who would help in the development of the new platform “Digital and Emerging Payments”.
