Following the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies, the Swiss insurer AXA has made crypto payment options available to its clients. Almost all of the services offered by the company can now be paid for using Bitcoin (BTC). AXA, which is the second largest insurer in Europe, became the first insurance company in history to introduce such an option.
AXA invests in its digital future
According to Wednesday announcements, this situation is taking place in the face of the growing demand for cryptocurrencies among the company’s consumers. AXA attributed the popularity of cryptocurrencies to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 has resulted in many people and businesses looking for digital alternatives to payment. This issue mostly concerns cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Already in 2019, the insurer conducted a study that showed that a third of its customers own cryptocurrencies.
As we can read in the report, the new payment option means “an investment in the digital future of the company”. Claudia Bienentreu, head of Open Innovation, said:
This is AXA’s response to the growing customer demand for alternative payment solutions where new technologies play an increasingly important role.
The cryptocurrency payment service has been made possible thanks to AXA’s partnership with Bitcoin Suisse – a Swiss crypto broker. The insurer has announced that it will support more cryptocurrencies as a payment method in the near future, including TWINT.
Cryptocurrencies are just getting started
Since last year, many companies have integrated support for cryptocurrency payments. This is not too surprising news, especially considering the growing interest in digital assets. Recently, popular electric car company Tesla announced it would accept Bitcoin payments for its vehicles.
Interestingly, in some sites with adult filam, cryptocurrencies remained the only payment option. The platform you know from your friends’ stories – Pornhub – had a big problem some time ago. Visa and Mastercard have suspended cooperation with the company. Pornhub was supposed to insufficiently filter the published content, as a result of which it was possible to place on it a video with pedophile content or scenes of beating women. The adult movie platform dealt with the problem very easily – with the help of cryptocurrencies.
