Theta Network, a blockchain based media sharing platform, has added Sony’s European research division as the verifier of its network.
Sony will launch the Theta Network node
How just happened we found out, Sony Europe’s research and development center in Brussels currently has blockchain expertise and will strive to achieve “To further improve the global user experience of Theta network.” In other words, the electronics giant joins a blockchain project that wants to operate in the multi-media market.
We would like to remind you that in 2016 Sony participated in the financing round conducted by Theta Labs, the team responsible for the aforementioned blockchain-based project. At this stage, it was only about collecting the first resources that are necessary to start designing the web platform.
Magdalena Wasowska, director of Sony Europe R&D Center Europe Brussels Laboratory, says blockchain technology can be effective “License and rights management tools”. In the press release, she noted:
At the R&D center, we share Theta Network’s passion for decentralized technologies and are excited about the possibilities blockchain technology can offer creators.
In addition to Sony, members of Theta’s Governing Board include companies such as Google, Samsung, Binance and Blockchain Ventures.
Part of the network today is THETA, the native token, which is the central tool in the micropayment system on the platform. Currently, the network has 2,740 nodes.
Blockchain in the entertainment market
Blockchain is gaining more and more interest and application in the entertainment market. It allows not only to protect authors’ copyrights, but also to increase their income.
Today, for example, the new album of the Kings of Leon group has its premiere. Interestingly, its release will also be accompanied by the issuance of NFT tokens. These will allow fans not only to legally download the band’s latest digital songs, but also guarantee various privileges related to the group’s live performances (access to places close to the stage).
The copyright to his graphics via blockchain is also sold by Grimes, Elon Musk’s wife and a popular singer. Her 10 NFTs sold for $ 5.8 million in less than 20 minutes.
