Trump is considering pardoning the creator of SilkRoad – Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

It is possible that Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht will be given a second chance. US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering pardoning him.

Will the founder of Silk Road get a second chance?

The founder of Silk Road was imprisoned by US authorities as early as 2013. Since then, he has been serving a double life sentence without parole. According to today information from The Daily Beast, which cites anonymous sources, the US government has recently investigated the case of the founder of Silk Road. The current US president was also briefed on the Ulbricht case, including the allegations made on his behalf. According to sources, President Trump “privately expressed some sympathy for Ulbricht’s plight.”

It is uncertain whether President Trump will pardon the founder of Silk Road. It is worth noting, however, that Ulbricht received influential support from the social and political environment of the country. In this way, he could be elected, inter alia, for the next round of pardons and commutations. This should happen before the inauguration of the new US president, Joe Biden.

Ulbricht’s judgment

Ross Ulbricht was responsible for the dark net market that allowed for illegal items trading and money laundering. Ulbricht launched the SIlk Road in 2011, but was detained by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2013. This darknet website used the Tor network to hide information. This, in turn, made it difficult to track both sellers and buyers. Two years after the closure of Silk Road, its founder was sentenced to double life imprisonment. This verdict was quite controversial because the offender never used violence.

In mid-November, we reported that CBS, the American mainstream TV station, would air a documentary about Silk Road. The production includes, among others interview with Julia Vie, the ex-girlfriend of the founder of this darkweb platform. Apparently, during the conversation, she said that “Dread Pirate Roberts”, because he was known under that nickname, was not motivated by money in his actions. So much so that he didn’t even have a car. The movie is called “The FBI Declassified: The Dangerous Journey on the Silk Road.”
